Apple now charges $1.99 per episode for standard resolution and $2.99 for a high-definition episode. Those are very high prices for content that is free over the air or with a cable subscription and that can be viewed only on PCs, iPods and iPhones.

But with the March release of the iPad, Apple is hoping that reasonably priced content plus the iPad’s huge, high-resolution screen will make paying for TV content more compelling.

The Apple Store Experience

The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple met with at least one network last week to discuss the 99-cent pricing model. Apple is trying to “ignite the video part of iTunes,” a source said. Apple had originally been trying to strike subscription deals with TV networks and producers, but those efforts have stalled.

Will 99-cent TV shows drive adoption of the iPad? “That in itself probably won’t drive a lot of sales,” said Greg Sterling, principal analyst with Sterling Market Intelligence. Sterling believes the conventional wisdom that consumer disinterest in the iPad will dissipate when the device actually appears.

apple-iphone-vs-nokia-n95_1Will Apple’s iPhone reshape the mobile phone market? Are there better devices actually available already? We put the iPhone head-to-head with its competition to see how it stacks up.

Gadget aficionados will no doubt have heard that Apple is launching the iPhone, its first mobile phone, in the US on 29 June. Here in Australia, though, we’ll have to wait until next year to get our grubby mitts on the sleek multimedia device. Apple recently published information comparing its hot little handset with the already available Nokia N95, Samsung BlackJack, Palm Treo 750 and the Blackberry Curve 8300.

Apple also recently upped the stated battery life of the iPhone from five to eight hours of talk time, 250 hours of standby, five hours of Internet browsing, seven hours of video playback and 24 hours of audio playback — 10 hours longer than Apple’s hard-disk based iPods.

4gs-topThe rumor mill for the next generation iPhone 4G is heating up yet again. According to a tweet posted by Eldar Murtazin (editor in chief of Mobile Review) on his twitter account, Apple has contacted Foxconn regarding orders for the next-gen iPhone. Foxconn is the manufacturer which Apple uses for their various products like the iPhone, Mac Mini and iPod line.

Last month, we informed you about a report from PinchMedia Analytics in which developer Pandav of iBart (a public transportation guide for the San Francisco train system) had a very pleasant surprise to learn. His app was installed and used on a device that identified itself as “iPhone 3,1″. It may be noted that exactly in the same time frame last year, Apple was discovered testing its iPhone 3GS (which is now identified as “iPhone 2,1”) in the San Francisco Bay area.

All these rumors are surely hinting towards a possible summer 2010 release of iPhone 4G with a faster processor, hopefully with atleast 5 megapixels camera, support for multi-tasking (perhaps?) and other improved functions.
