Google has finished its acquisition of video-compression-technology vendor On2 Technologies, boosting its efforts in online video.

The deal closed after gaining approval from On2 shareholders and was valued at US$124.6 million, Google said in a brief statement late Friday. The figure was about $18 million more than the value stated when the companies announced the acquisition last year.

144103-nyt_500In response to confusion surrounding the iPad promotion video, Apple has replaced the video with a more accurate version.

The iPad promo video originally had mocked up scenes showing the iPad browsing the New York Times complete with visible Adobe Flash content. The finding generated some hope and speculation that Apple might incorporate Flash in the future. In response to the confusion, Apple has replaced the video now showing the broken Flash plug-in icon that would show up in real world use.

Apple’s decision not to incorporate Flash into their iPhone OS has been a controversial one, but a stand they’ve remained consistent with over time.

Sure, the iPhone 3G is a groundbreaking phone. There’s a lot to love about it… the amazingly easy-to-use touchscreen interface, amazing video playback, a big, bright, high contrast, high-resolution display that’s the best of any smartphone on the market, and a web browser that’s as good as any you’d use on a desktop computer. Not to mention Apple’s new MobileMe service which will provide over the air syncing of your email, contacts, calendar, tasks and photos with your home or office computer — no plugging in required.

But there are a lot of big disappointments with the iPhone 3G too. Some of them are stubborn commercial decisions Apple has made; others look like oversights, and others are fundamental flaws in the design of the phone itself.

You must have also learned by now that you would get a free online storage of 2GB with the Photoshop Mobile app, which can be downloaded for free in U.S. and Canada. However, after using the app for a couple of days, users have begun to feel the lack of tools that one could expect in other mobile image editing tools.
